Trailing the Old Put

So, here we go with The Trainstalker! And first up is courtesy of Scouting NY, who regularly reports on truly awesome things from The Big Apple. And this time out, he’s identified one of my person favourite train-related things: old urban lines that have been abandoned, but are still (somewhat)¬†recognizable, and are even rideable!

Y’know, if you resort to a bike, anyway…

The old Putnam Line used to run between The Bronx and a small upstate town called Brewster. The line went through the usual stages: removal of passenger services and used solely as freight, then freight withered, and ultimately the line was abandoned and finally ripped up.
